![]() ![]() There are actually droughts of quality material out there. It's not just about your generation versus the new. ![]() mid to late 70s.late 90s.early 2000s were all pretty bad. It is being able to see through all of the bullshit that is hot in the moment and recognizing something that will become timeless.Īnd if you look back in time, there are some eras with worse music than others. In my opinion, having good music taste means being able to tell the difference between Nirvana and Limp Bizkit in your own time. Turns out Limp Bizkit is not exactly on the same level as Led Zeppelin in stature 20 years later. I knew a lot of people my age who thought it was crap yet the records were flying off the shelves selling millions of copies. Late 90s and early 2000s had some complete garbage music Limp Bizkit etc. Not true.a lot of the time, you can see through the bullshit and bands that don't have longevity in your own generation. Old people gonna hate and say "This generation is shit," but in the end you have to accept that there's a new value system in town and lyrics aren't a big factor anymore. Granted, I love the genre slightly known as ignant rap, and the number of gunshot onomatopoeias is a clear indication of how good the song will be, so mumble rap fits just right in. Mumble rap gets thrown out in massive quantities so it's always fresh, the production is usually pretty good, the 1 phrase a song I catch is some form of motivating, and at the end of the day I find it entertaining. When I'm at the gym, 99% of the time I don't give a fuck what they say, and when I do catch a lyric I just want some semi-motivational shit. There was a period of time there where nobody was putting out energetic music- Kendrick had only a couple bangers, Drake was off in some corner crying, Ye has been cutting the wilin out since YEEZUS, and I was stuck playing old Rick Ross and Ace Hood. Mumble rap filled a void in the musical world. Mumble rap isn't too far off from Summer House EDM kind of stuff, where all the words are just heavily chopped up and basic platitudes (Kygo, Avicii, Martin Garrix, Calvin Harris, etc). Kendrick just got a pulitzer and he's dumbed down enough to get into mainstream. If you want lyrics, there's plenty of music out there that's good for that. ![]() If you don't like it, don't listen to it. I'm sure we all have some kind of spotify shit where you can listen to whatever you want whenever you want. ![]()
